I’m going to go there. Hold on tight…
We’ve all been on the wedding pages on Facebook where brides post things like “Looking for a reasonably priced florist” or “Does anyone know of a wedding planner that won’t break the bank?” Anyone else legit CRINGE when they hear terms like this?
Why?
Because they are so vague and do not help anyone involved. If you want a helpful response and not just a whole bunch of comments filled with vendor self-promotion to sort through, avoid using these 6 terms that make wedding vendors cringe.
- “Affordable”. What’s affordable for one couple may not be affordable for another.
- “Won’t break the bank”. What does this even mean?
- “Simple”. It’s never as simple as you think. In fact, sometimes that could mean even more work depending on the type of vendor.
- “Cheap”. No reputable vendor wants to be associated with this word.
- “Reasonably priced”. Like #1, this can vary depending on the couple. And just because someone is out of your budget doesn’t mean their price isn’t reasonable.
- “Budget-friendly”. Your budget does NOT equal someone else’s.
Here’s a better idea: Do some research on what the services you are looking for actually cost in your area. Take your total budget and prioritize your top 3-5 services, then put the majority of your funds there. If you can’t find a reputable service for your price point, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your priorities or your total budget.
THEN, if you are still inclined to create posts on these wedding pages looking for recommendations, be specific. Say something like “I’m looking for a DJ for June 17, 2023 at Water’s Edge Resort in the $1,500 – $2,000 range.” Even a range is more helpful than any of the terms listed above. You are much more likely to get helpful responses this way.
